First off I will apologize, because I'm sure there has already been a ton of discussion on this. Right now I'm stuck with using my phone for Internet and it isn't search friendly.
I'm going from 10" baby apes to a set of 16" from Hill Country. My biggest questions are about bushings and mirrors. I know that the poly bushings are a good idea, but are they basically mandatory? My brother in law put 14" bars on his standard without swapping them and is issue free.
Also on the mirrors, do most people just flip their stockers upside down, leave them on top, or buy special mirrors to hang upside down? I'd really also like to see some mirror setups if you guys have pics, whether they are stock or custom.
Thanks!
Poly bushings for sure. The amount leverage on taller bars is much greater than shorter bars and poly bushing will hold the bars steady as opposed to the stock rubber bushings which will leave a lot of slop. I would never run apes without poly bushings.

Poly bushings are a must on 16s. I tried running the stock rubbers, to loose feeling. I run the mirrors on top. The only thing I could see with then under was my arms.
Stone
I run 16s w/ 2 inch risers right now and my mirrors are on top... I am upgrading to 17s with 3 inch risers so maybe I will try running them on the bottom... Lets see what happens!
My stock mirrors are under. You have to move your head a bit to see behind you, but it works for me. I always turn my head before changing lanes regardless.
