I just installed a set of big shots staggered on my 07 standard, but the jury is still out on whether I like the sound or not. I took the baffles out to begin with and it was a little to loud, so I reinstalled the baffles that came with them and it sounds about the same. I have not let anyone else ride it yet so I could hear how they sounded off the bike though. What are some of your opinions on these and also on others? I wanted something that would allow you to get the full effect of the "harley loap" I've heard the longshots on other bikes and liked them, but they are not available for the 07 softails yet. I had never heard the big shots staggered before I got these.
I'm about three days away from buying the Big Shots Staggered for my '07 FatBoy. On my previous bike (metric) I had the V&H Cruzers on and liked them but maybe a tad bit on the loud side. I'm sure I'll get used to the BSS's. Question......what did you do for the PC or did you go with a V&H FuelPak? Care to share what you went with and did you do the install?
I've got the BSS and like them alot.I had the PCIII installed after i did the pipes.Ran good before PC but ran even better after. They may be a tad loud for some. Some people i understand put in quiet baffles.I personally have Big city thunder monster baffles installed when i added the PC and did the dyno. Not everyone likes the thunder monster baffles .
I put the Longshot HS on my fatboy and I love the sound. The guys I ride with are jealous. One had SE Slip Ons on his Roadking and said he got sick of hearing my pipes so he ordered some V&H true duals.
I took the baffles out of mine just to see what it sounded like. The idle was awesome, really loud and sounded good, but as soon as I got on the throttle the sound went terrible so I put the baffles back in.
Rule of thumb I always went with was the longer the pipe, the deeper and throatier the sound, shorty tend to be louder, raspier and have more bark.
I used the pcIII. I did the install. N problems at all. This was an easy install. The bike seems to idle a little fast now though. I have not zero'd the thottle yet. This may be the cause. I have not installed a better air cleaner yet either, although I did download the map that is for the big shot staggered and screamin eagle air cleaner. This could be the cause. I would like to have a little more of the harley "loap" at idle though.
Maybe I didn't word that correctly. Not too loud, but the sound seems to "smooth" out quicker instead of having the traditional Harley sound I've heard from the longshots over a broader rpm range. (If that makes sense) I will say however that I didnt ride the bike with the baffles out, only had the bike running in the garage and reving the engine.
Had the V&H BSS's on two H-D's for a couple of years. When they were first put on, I simply adored them. Huge grins. Many rides later, the big robust pounding sound just became a little old, tedious even. Once while standing with some people at a c-store, a bike with the BSS's came by. Loud. Those around me cringed and shook their heads. Didn't like it. After many Harleys, many pipes, many miles, have come to know/believe it is a low and deep exhaust note causing others to have weak knees... not big and loud. Sometimes I think bikers go for the big/loud so they aren't drowned out by other H-D's on group rides. But when riding alone the pounding can become unpleasant if not regretable. In general, it is 2-1 pipes delivering the belchy low and deep. My fave is the V&H ProPipe HS. I grade pipes in three areas... performance, sound, looks. Would give 2-1 pipes the grade of A - A - B. Have not come across a A - A - A pipe yet. The BSS's?... B - B - A .
I had the V&H Big Shots on my Deluxe and did not like the sound or the performance. I now have the V&H Pro Pipes and the sound is much more throaty and the performance is unreal compared to the Big Shots. No comparrison. I could not be happier with the sound, looks and performance of the Pro Pipes.
