This may be a dumb question... but I'll ask anyway, are the stock hubs and spokes on a 2007 deluxe chrome? On my new to me Deluxe, I can't tell,.. looks like they have never been cleaned! I guess from 13000 mi of brake dust and grime, they look very dirty.
I will get a spoke brush for sure and if they are chrome, I will really work at cleaning and shining them.
Any Ideas on what to use? soap? solvent? thanks
Go to WalMart and buy the autodetailer plus it's attachments. Something like $20 or so. It's an "as seen on TV deal". It's like a big electric toothbrush. Buy some chrome cleaner, get some beer, put on the tunes, and have a good time. If the chrome cleaner isn't working, you have brushed aluminum. That is painted with a clear sealer, I believe, and if it hasn't been maintained you won't get it looking much better no matter how hard you rub.
A lot of guys with brushed aluminum have stripped the paint off, used 2000 grit sandpaper to polish the aluminum, then two steps of metal burnishing with abrasive polish, then polish. Sixteen hours later they have highly polished bottom legs on their suspension. On a laced wheel, if I was facing that, I would be shopping for a new wheel.
I believe your spokes are stainless, hub alum.and the wheel or rim is chrome. It takes me hours to keep mine looking good and I have tried about everything on the shelf.A jack is a very big help if you dont have one,you will want one.

Bingo. I use Dawn dish soap and a plastic bristled brush when they get nasty. Dawn with a greenie or an SOS pad work good for the whitewalls while you are in the neighborhood.
