New Backrest...
Well...theoretically you could install the backrest with just the solo seat, however I think the backrest gets a lot of support from the passenger pillion. I think with the solo seat only, the back rest would give too much.
I checked out Firehouse's website and like what I see for the Heritage Classic, but I have a question for you guys that have this rider backrest.
How much does this affect the passenger mounting/dismounting the rear seat? It looks from the Firehouse pics that the backrest bracket is solid (i.e. it doesn't fold forward but remains rigid).
While the missus only rides about 15% of the time with me, I don't want a backrest that will cause her problems, or that I have to take off whenever she rides with me.

It is rigid mounted, but my wife has had no problems getting on or off the bike with it.

First - Is there a passenger sissy bar on your bike also?
Second - How young (or old) is your wife? (I know I'm not as limber as I once was.)
I just got one of these for my 07 Heritage. Wife can still get on/off without much problem. I don't see why it wouldn't work on a solo seat. Might give a bit more, but since it attaches to the front seat bolts, should work. I like it for longer trips. The leather is a bit more glossy than what's on the factory seats, but I can live with it. It's so easy to take off/put on, I will keep it off when I'm not going on a long ride. Sure makes the back feel better after 150 miles though.

My wife is only 27 which may be part of the reason she doesn't have trouble.
