I went from a 09 Road King to a 09 Crossbones. I mention the year because the 09 and later touring frame is supposedly the best one yet. I will tell you honestly, if you mean "the ride" as in how you feel the road surface, I don't notice a huge difference. My King had a windshield, but I only rode with it twice. I don't think you really experience all the benefits of a touring bike until you are riding a fairing bike. That is apples to oranges in my opinion. Honestly all I ever miss about the Road King is the big hard bags and the cruise control....

I have ridden my friends Road Kings. The RK isolates you from feeling the road, sort of the difference between a Cadillac ride and a Jeep ride. I like to feel connected to the road so I prefer the Softails. My friends like to ride my bike, but I don't like to ride theirs so we hardly ever swap. Hope this helps.

Traded an 06 RK Classic for the Train. I didn't notice much of a difference in the ride once I got the shocks adjusted that is. The steering was the major thing I had to get to used to, the Train is stretched out more than a touring bikes. Don't even notice it now. But as stated I do miss the cruise control.
