Hey guys, it felt really good to get back on my bike, Started driving trucks and am gone for months at a time. So now the battery isn't charging. the battery will hold a charge if I charge it with the tender charger, I am thinking it's the voltage regulator, after charging it with the tender charger I can ride for a little bit before it won't start.
after charging it over night the battery reads 13.04 volts then when I start it at idle it reads 12.4 volts and then as the rpms increase the highest voltage reading I got was around 12.9, I disconnected the voltage regulator at the big plug that goes to the crank case. then tested the two points on the regulator side (with the engine and ignition switch OFF) one point gave me 118 volts and the other one gave me 115 volts. I doublt checked making sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me. and it's not 11.8 and 11.5 volts. so according to the manual I have that means the regulator is bad.
but the voltage readings seem really really high to me so I just wanted to run this by you guys real quick to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong.
also on a side note just incase it makes a difference. there was some oil around the connector, and even a little bit inside the connector but the points seemed to be clean.
