check the throttle body for carbon buildup. with the crankcase vent tubes dumping into the AC before the throttle blade it can build up quick. take the AC off and hold the throttle open and look for a buildup around where the throttle blades would be at the closed/idle position. the throttle blade is factory set for minimum air flow around the throttle blade with the IAC shut completely off. it doesn't take much carbon buildup to restrict the air flow around the throttle blade. to clean use a carb cleaner sprayed on to a rag and finger clean it or use a old toothbrush to clean out after spraying the throttle blade and body down. don't spray to much to load the intake up.. just enough to get it wet and loosen the crud up.
I have had an on and off problem with my fatboy sometimes stalling when you pull up to stop at an intersection after riding a bit. Again this is random doesn't happen every time and usually if I turn the ignition off and restart the bike and its fine for some time. I also occasionally have an issue where the idle goes way up when I start the bike for a second. I am outside my warranty period and thought I recall reading something here about a similar problem but could not find it during a search. If anyone has any thoughts on this could please let me know or direct me to the right info. thanks ahead of time.
Big sucker with no football cover just an insert. K&N is exposed. I now put the football cover on durring rainy season.
I figured out why water in the TPS does not set codes.
The TPS is just a resistive pot.
You see, slight amount of water creates parasitic paralel resistive paths and changes the readings of the TPS. The readings still stay within the normal range of resistance, just they already correspond to totally different position of the throttle. Besides, the readings become erratic. This fools the ECM and it can't set proper idle position.
05 night train sniffed and died at idle after was warmed up. ran fine off idle. stop sign...sniff ..die red light ..sniff die.. warranty...took to dealer..said no problem with bike..this went on for a while. so i sits one day lookin at it havin a brew, it aint gonna beat me i says, brew, brew, little momma comes over with a jack shot an tells me it does the same thing the shovelhead does when points go bad..bless her little thang..brain fart later..i switch the ignition module with my 06 rk ..ride till its good an hot ..no problems at all..took old module to dealer ..they test and say its good. bought a new module on my dime. no more problems. warranty..i do all my wrenchin no matter what it is..dont care for warranties anymore
