The pistons aren't retracting for whatever reason. The base cause is one of two things... the pistons are cocking in the bore or the compression of the piston from the fluid is not releasing. That's it.
A warped rotor will make it feel like the brakes are grabbing and letting go. Once the brakes got hot, the rotor probably warped. However, it is a simple thing when sitting in the garage to determine if the brakes aren't releasing. Jack up the bike, spin the wheel. Apply the brakes. Release the brakes. Spin the wheel. Any malfunction in these four steps tells you if there is a problem with the fluid movement or pistons... if it isn't already ovbious that your rotor is warped.
Today it was fixed. The whole culprit was some aftermarket levers that were pressing up against the plunger which was not visible when it was on the bike. Grounded the inside down some and now all is good. Such a minor little issue and an expensive one too. Hopefully, this helps out the next guy that gets overcompressing brakes. Appreciate everyones input wishing it was the rotor.
I am so glad you got it fixed I didn't want to read of you having a bad incident because of the front brake.
Also thank you for posting what the problem was we all learn something new every day
