I have a chrome rear wheel that came off my 06 Deuce.
my Father in law would like to put this rim on his 91 softail custom.
does anyone know if this is possible?
and can it be done without any major hassles or modifications?
the local indy shop said he thought it would work but he wasnt 100% positive.
my two main concerns are hub width and axle width. the height difference I think we can easily deal with.
I'm hoping that some well informed members can give me some guidance here.
The bearings on older softails are not sealed and take different size spacers. It can be made to work but will not be a direct bolt on. He will need slimmer spacers due to the sealed bearing in the Deuce wheel.
I am also not sure on the width of the deuce rim.

06 was the start of the change over on bearings. Belt size/width should be the concern. Then the fender extension/dust shield and the brake caliper. If you got the swing arm and brake it would be easier...
I'm pretty sure your rotor and his brake calipers won't work together. My father in law bought a set of Performance machine wheels that came off an 02 fatboy and could not get them to work on his 91 heritage without completely replacing the hub. I think he could've made everything work with some mods to the bearings and spacers, but the older bikes brake caliper is set up way different than the newer bikes.
it should work, i have seen it done, width is 4.5" or 4.25", cant remember, the softail one will be 3.5" just do the mock up with the wheel if you already have it and see how everything lines up!

thanks a ton. I never even thought about the brakes being an issue.
my plan was to bolt his rotor and belt pulley to the deuce rim.
I'm also thinking the deuce hub is wider than the stock 91 hub.
I'm gonna have to investigate this further but you guys have given me some great food for thought
all I have is the loose deuce wheel. I dont have the swing arm or caliper.
so rolling that whole assembly under there is not possible. although that seems to be the easiest answer.
