Default Fx springer front brake help!

Hey everyone.

Ok here is what I have going on.
I bought a Ride wright spoke front rim for my springer. I told them I needed it for a FX springer front end with a right side brake.

I had the original brake set up minus the outside brake pad for mock up.
I installed the rotor and mounted the rim tire combo onto the forks with a new axle and spacer kit from JP cycle. I believe it was a V-twin kit.
Everything seemed to fit good. Of course the caliper was missing the outside pad.

The new pads arrived. Now with the new inside pad installed the caliper doesn't fit over the rotor and match up with the bracket.
There is what looks like 1/8" of a difference.
The new pad is just about twice a thick as the pad I used when I first installed the caliper.

Is there a difference in the spacer that the caliper bracket rides on between the early and late model springers?
When I ordered the axle I did notice the were two listed.
I figured the two covered with speedo drive and without speedo drive.
Were the spacers different for the two also? And could this change the spacing for the bracket also?

Can anyone post up a pic of the caliper bracket mount for early and late models.

I used the Manual and parts book to mount the axle and brake but I might have got it wrong.

Here is a pic of first set up.
I didn't get a shot of the after with the problems. Sorry.

The rear assembled just fine.
I figured the front should have also.
I was also thinking of using a spacer to bring the rotor out but I'm not too sure if that would work and be safe.

Thanks.

Harley loved to change wheel offsets and spacers...I guess just to screw with aftermarket wheel companys. It is very common for custom wheels to require custom spacers. The easiest thing to do is get a stack of washers the same size as your axle...space the wheel till the rotor is in the center of the caliper...then measure the washers to see what size spacers you need. You can order custom spacers here:

That is a good idea but.

The springer caliper bracket rides on the spacer on the right side.
It has a step in the outer diameter.

I haven't found enough info to figure if there was a difference in the length of the stepped down portion which would let the bracket ride closer to the hub.

I'm almost sure I have the wrong one.I would really like to find part numbers to see if there was in fact two different spacers.

Thanks for the idea.

Get a spacer to move the rotor out to where you need it. I believe vulcan may make those also, but don't hold me to it......

to me in the pic it looks like the spacer is holding it out to far from the rim
Another option you have is to have the amount you need taken off the current spacer you have at a machine shop. use the same principal with the washers just turn your sapcer that goes through the caliper bracket around so the shoulder faces out alowing you to slide the caliper back and for till you find the offset you need use the wahers on the rim side to make the spacing you need for the shoulder measure and have your local machine shop run it thru the lathe to mill it down to the size you need. To me this seems better than buying abunch of kits till yu luck out on the right one. I just went thru the spacing doing an aftermarket springer on my night train an from what i see from you pic is you are too far out but from your pic angle its hard to see. Also make sure you have 2 new pads for mock up so you know you have it correct. Oh another thought the pistons are all seated back in right one isnt pushed out a bit. Mine i have to open up to get over the caliper as soon as i take it off the pads spring out ward. Just some ideas hope one helps or jogs a thought hear
