My spouse - in motion, but slow, so that I can play with my new camera.

You probably already did this, but most cameras have a "sports" setting which will help stop the action, might try that

"Most" people don't want to "stop" the action. Personally, I would never recommend a "sports" setting since it usually tends to "freeze" the action. I usually use "manual" mode though on occasion I may use "shutter priority." Some manufacturers call it one thing and others call it another, i.e. "time value." My main camera doesn't even have presets, only Manual, Shutter Priority, Aperature Priority, and Program Mode. Program mode is the closest it gets to an automatic setting.

The following was shot in shutter priority at 1/200sec, F/16. I also used a monopod since I was shooting at a very slow speed considering the speed of the bike and because it was windy out. The slow shutter speed helps blur the background when panning.

Only in my own mind, which by the way I'm completely out of.

But at least that shot answers the question some people have asked about the reflectors working or not.
