Default Performance Upgrades?

Ok guys....this may be a little long to get the point across. I apologize up front. I am an absolute newby to Harleys and admit I am clueless but thanks to this site I am learning quickly and I hope the reading and advice keeps me from making too many mistakes.

I have ordered the RB Racing 2-1 Pro Stock exhaust for my '11 FB Lo. Originally, until I thankfully found this site and saw the light, I had ordered VH short shots from the dealer and they included the exhaust, SE heavy breather, super tuner, dyno time and labor and parts in the price of the bike. Now I have a credit for the cost of the pipes but I plan to let them do the install on the new pipes since I have paid the other money. I also have a 15% one time purchase I can make and want to take advantage of one of the few perks we get from the dealers. I am trying to take advantage and do the expensive stuff first. My questions are:

1) Should I spend the money on the SE performance upgrade or should I go with something aftermarket?

I was thinking about doing the SC PRO Stage III upgrade since it includes the super tuner in the package and I could use the money I already paid for the super tuner as a credit toward this package. Is it worth going with the Stage III or should I go with Stage II or something altogether different? If I am interpreting this correctly, the Stage III uses the original heads but new cylinders, pistons, a SE259E cam, new valve springs and perfect-fit pushrods and includes the super tuner.

2) Do I need to purchase a PC V with these upgrades?

3) Should I not let the dealer do these installs at all and go to an independent tuner instead? I live in Alabama and both Wood Performance and Rods Performance are close to me although I dont know much about them. Does anyone have reccommendations?

4) Will there be a big performance difference between the SE heavy breather and an RSD breather? I found an RSD that I like much better.

5) While I am having the engine work done, does anyone have other suggestions for mods that would be best now and possibly save money instead of doing later? Or is there anything else that is imperative that is done with the current mods I am suggesting?

Thanks,

Blair

Are you sure the R&B is what you need? It seems that it is for worked on motors such as the 120R. Are you doing engine work? Make sure everything works with one another or you could defeat the purpose.

1) I went with the SE tuner due to warranty reasons. If you go with an aftermarket tuner there is a chance Harley may not cover you if you run into engine issues or other issues caused by the aftermarket tuner. This is what 2 dealers here in Texas told me.

2) You are going to need some type of tuner if you are changing both the exhaust and A/C. Would stick with the SE tuner from Harley.

3) Depends on your local dealers. Lucky one of my local dealers is a pretty good one. Would ask around.

4) I like the RSD breather much better than the SE one. Not sure about performance it can't be that much different.

5) You get a 15% one time discount? That is a pretty good discount. You ever considering going with a big bore kit? If not the big bore kit would maybe look at some cams. My next motor upgrade is going to either be the big bore kit or cams.

Would talk to a couple different local dealers since you are a 2011 and if you are concerned at all about your warranty you may want to ask a lot of questions as far as tuners and engine work go.

The local dealer here told me the first question Harley asks when making a warranty call is an after market tuner installed. If so they will try to get out of paying for the repair via warranty.

The PCV doesn't fully support the 2011 Softails and you have to disable your O2 sensors. I think it's better to have the maps changed than to piggyback on a unit that could potentially fail.

I'm having fun with the SE Tuner. It has a data gathering ability so you can see what was going on in your engine while you are out on a ride.

Thanks for the info so far guys. It looks like I am settled on the super tuner and RSD intake as well as taking it to the local HD and hoping they are good.

I still would like to know opinions on the SE Big Bore Stage II($900) or the SE Pro Stage III($1500 includes super tuner). Does anyone know which one would work better with the RB Racing Prostock 2-1?

Thanks again.

I have the SE 103 Stage II, 255 cams (which doesn't require head work--$$$), SE Slip ons, and a remap on a '10 Heritage. I am completely satisfied with the performance and believe it is a good balance between performance and long term reliability. 15K miles without a hiccup. I had 2 88s and a 96 before this one.

Talk to Bob Wood about what you want before you buy anything. That is my advice as he is extremely knowledgeable and will take the time out to give you his opinion. If I lived near them and was not going to do the build myself I would take it to him. He is a well trusted and known builder who makes great stuff. I would ask his opinion on the tuner as well.

The whole warranty issue is what it is. If you are concerned find out what will be covered and what not. I prefer to support aftermarket shops and builders than dealerships, but that is me and I work for an aftermarket shop. That does not mean I never go to the dealer, as I do fore certain things, but it is what it is.

U may not have seen the thread on dyno's sheets we have in here...

They have thousands dyno results/sheets that others have got in here, what mods they have done and the results they got.

I started one several yrs ago in the softail section to help others just for question like urs..

There also one in the touring section.

Look through them and they should help U decide what to do and get.

heres the one for Softails .https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...-softails.html

heres to one for touring bikes.
