I painted them with Imron Paint its a 1 step that they use on some trains and boats. The stuff is almost indestructible. But you could prob base clear them because they dont get hot enough to dull or crack the paint. I used that Imron paint to paint my old pipes (without hardener) and it help up very well but eventually faded after about a year but the last 2 foot of the pipes stayed up like it should.
