this one is cheap and more bare which i like i see the dent on the tank like its been layed down... i like the rear fender too.... what should the year range mile range go for?
You need to pull the exhaust and the cam cover and check the tensioners, or you could just explain their likelihood of failing based on statistics to the owner and get some more money off the bike and redo them with the hydraulic upgrade with the money you save. I'd say if they don't know anything about it ask for them to have them checked before you buy. If they go bad you engine will grenade. It ahs been known to happen anywhere between 15-80K miles. I changed mine at 40K on my 2002 and they were worn, but could have gone a few more miles.
I tend to shy away from bike with dents as such as you know it has been down and never know what else may have been damaged or how hard the hit was. Clean title clean bikes are definitely worth more in my book and I willing to pay more for them.
ya the one with the dent seems that way to me too... as i have always done with all of my trucks and such is buy original and mod myself... you save what the owner wants to think his upgrades are worth and theres no telling who out there even does stuff right anymore... ive seen many hack jobs on trucks... as far as the cam tensioners ill take your advice it is good to know thanks a bunch... im lookin to stay around 7 grand now so i know i wont be getting a ultra top of line clean awsome bike but as my first id like to not go broke... you get what you pay for but i always liked messing with stuff.... down the road if i continue to like riding ill go with a new or more expensive bike...
anything else i should look for obvious as signs of wear or negligence or things that go wrong more often...
my list
tires
obvious signs of lay downs
hack wiring
carb pre 02
cam tensioners
mismatched fastners
how it runs and drives
leaks
i need more model specific areas tho
looking at years 95-02ish
fatboy
good model years?
bad " "?
upgrades?
hey yall, here is another one i have found and it looks awsome!!! says it comes with maintnence records... low miles for the year... and plenty of extras i can sell for some payback... what do yall think??
I bought my 2003 last year, it had just under 10k miles, pretty much stock and I got it for $8500.
Keep looking for a deal. I'm sure you could find a bike with around 10k miles for around $7500-$8500. I got my bike to where I wanted ot for around another $500. I haven't checked my cam tensioners, probably do that this winter...maybe by then I'll do cams too.
BTW the bike with the different fenders lloks horrible, the spacing on everything looks off. Rear fender looks like it's bent in...buy stock and make it your own.
Good prices on those bikes. My 2000 FB wouldn't leave my possession for anything less than 10K. But it's not for sale even for that amount right now. Good luck, it seems to be a buyer's market in your area.
I know it's easier said than done but BE PAITENT! I was looking all winter for a bike and came across mine a couple of weeks ago-99 fatboy 7100 miles and lots of add ons for under 9k. I almost pulled the trigger on a couple of bikes and am glad I waited.
patient? whats that?! haha... im sure if it were winter and i wouldnt be riding much it would be easier to wait... but man i really really want to ride like yesterday.... i know its best to wait and find the best deal... but ive waited before and missed on deals that were awsome waiting for that deal that is not gonna come.... seems a bike the color i want stock. a few extras. all work records... some extra stuff i dont want i.e. windshield that i could sell to make some money back... its hard to pass... gonna talk to the bank tuesday and see what we can do.... and what i can get approved for.. since i just bought my first house less than a month ago...

Good luck. My buddy closed on his house and then drove across the street and bought a new Road King. Talk about an expensive day.
