I am looking for wind deflectors that will work on my 05 Springer Classic when I use my detatchable windshield to keep the turbulance that comes from under the bottom of the windsheild into my face. No one seems to offer these. Anyone know an answer?
I never found a solution for mine in regards to wind deflectors and the turbulence was bad enough to make me nauseous. I ended up going with a Wind Vest instead.
I was looking at the windvest, I have never heard of it. I will have to consider buying one. Thanks for the input, it is good to know the windvest really works.
Only problem with the Wind Vest I had is that the HD non-stock risers I had for the non-stock beach bar were too thick for their standard parts. Luckily I live near them so I was able to have them work something out with the bike there rather than ordering through the mail. I believe there should not be any fitment issue though for an non-stock FLSTSCI setup. Call to be sure. They're more than willing to listen and help.
I've noticed the same wind problem on my Springer Classic. Memphis Shades makes lowers for our springers (and the other springer models as well), and they're pretty inexpensive. I haven't tried them yet; am told they're easily detachible for around-town use. I'll probably pick up a set in the spring. You might go to the Memphis Shade website and take a look. Don't know if they have any pictures up or not. Their technical department can give you the right part numbers (one for mounts; one for the plastic). Total price is less than $100, I believe.
I contacted Memphis Shades, actually had the deflectors ordered with the mounting brackets. They emailed me back saying the mounting bracket for their lowers do not fit the HD windshield I have. They do not show pictures of their stuff on their website, but they are sending me a CD so I can analyze this better. Looks like to use their deflectors on the Springer, I will have to replace my windshield with theirs. Cost will be their windshield plus 91.00 for the brackets and deflectors. Once I have figured this out, I will post what I find.
I bought the lowers and brackets for use with my stock detachable windshield. You can see that the profile of the lower is cut for a different shape windshield if you really look but nobody has noticed yet. They made a huge difference on my bike. Give them a try, I think you will be happy. I don't think the bottom of the detachable windshield has changed much in shape from my 98. If you don't like them you can always get a piece of lexan cut to the shape you want and use their hardware.
If it is not too much trouble, can you tell me which brackets you bought with the lowers you put on your springer? Memphis Shades is telling me their brackets only work on their windshields. If you have made it work, I want to give it a try. Do you have a picture? I am grateful for the help.
I bought the parts from JP Cycles. Here is their part number for the springer mounts - 750-630.
They are 56.99 so I was a little worried they wouldn't work when I ordered them. Here are pics of those mounts and clear lowers on my bike with the factory detachable windshield.
