My '05 Deluxe now has 3200 miles on it. After each 500 miles of riding, my oil goes from full, down to the refill line. Is this normal, or do I have a problem that needs to be fixed prior to the warranty running out?? Thanks for any help with this!
Get her checked out before ya lose your warranty!!!! My 05 Heritage had the valve seal problem and was using a quart of oil every 1000 miles. The dealer swapped out the valve guide seals and rings and she has been fine for the last 8000 miles. Your dealer should be aware of this as it was a known problem with some of the 05's.
Your a victim of the Harley bull **** policy. They should have recalled the bikes they knew of the problem. I had this issue and was complaining. Harley then sent out a bulletin making the problem normal by saying that using a half quart in a thousand miles was normal bull. They replaced my valve guides and that did help. The problem is that if its not life threading they will never recall they will play the odds that not all will be in with the problem and hope the bike makes it until its out of warrantee. This way they do not have to do every bike a really cheap shot from Harley. Go in and let them know you know about the issue and get it fixed now. pull your plugs and check them see if they are wet if so you could have anothe problem with the rings seating. some time if using syn this can happen I do not recommend using syn foe at least two or three thousand miles
I have put about 7600 miles on my 05 Softail Deluxe and have not had to add oil unless I did not add enough when I changed the oil.
I assume you are aware that when you change out the filter and oil you have to fill the tank and run the bike to top it off after it fills the filter and oil line, etc.
Hey, Not a complete loss..... I also had the bad seals. Turns out you can get the 95" upgrade for labor only since they teardown is happening anyway... That's what I did.

Thanks to everyone for their input - sounds like I might have got one of the infamous valve guide seals.
