I have put gel inserts in a seat before. They are nice to soften up a seat that is very firm but already fits you well. I really think the memory foam option makes more of a difference though. It shapes to your butt more. My traveling seat is a stock Heritage solo (which is wider than the one on a Deluxe). It has been modified with the memory foam and is my best bet for a long ride.

Any good or bad experiences with Saddleman Explorer with driver backrest? I have an easy reach on the fatboy now and i like the shape, but butt is sore in an hour. Tried the original 07 seat - unusable. I'm average at 5'9" / 175. Will check out the C&C; mustangs are more than I want to pay. Cheers, Kevin.

From what I can see - your hand-tooled seat is amazing! Do you have any close up pics?

Just bought a Saddlemen Flame Tattoo. Its real Low profile and has the look I wanted. After I put it on I was nervous about how hard it was from the Corbin that I had on there. Beleive it or not the seat is comfortable. Its got the tail support that notches up like you want.

Here is the pick.

No offense but I've owned two Le Para Bare bones, one on a Sportster and one on a Street Glide - they look great and are fine for around town but for longer distances..no damn way.

Basic principles of physics prove this suggestion completely wrong, open one up and see what's inside., put the image in your mind...then stand naked in front of a mirror and turn around, turn your head and look back.

I just got mine yesterday!! Installed easy, the backrest is moronically simple. Just drop it in.
I took Dennis Kirk's last one for I think $440? The backrest is slick in that it pulls right out and a cute little velcro vinyl patch with the Mustang logo folds right over it. It has the same skirt as my Springer Classic so I'm working the medallions out of it to mount onto those.

It is very wide, 17.5". I've only gone about 10 miles on it but mega-dittos to your problem. Towards the end of my riding days I would be in serious butt pain after only 20 miles! It's firmer than I thought but I know I'll be in paradise on the next long trip.

I did a lot of research and reviewing and the Wide Vintage Solo always came up tops on every one. Maybe the other seats mentioned here will be great too, I don't know but if you have a little coin to drop look at it like a really nice pair of shoes ;-)

One more note on the seat. I did a search on nuts that lock or security screws. Some outfit out there has a (not a star) but a miniature version of lug nut lock with a key for like $15 and a nice matching chrome or black nut cap. I think I may get that too.

Yet one more thought...they advertise this seat as 'not compatible with stock'.
I did get my stock pillion on there and it was scrunched in the front a bit but mainly due to the screw that adjusts the seat fore & back. And they made it so the screw can't come out! I'm not saying they did that to ensure proprietary, I'm just sayin'...

The Mustang seats are great. Takes 1k miles to get them broke in though. The last one I bought used on Ebay and it was already broke in. I could ride all day, no problem. I have a new one now and after 2 hours my butt goes numb, but it isn't broke in yet.

Just ordered a Mustang. I guess if I don't like it I will sell it for a loss and try something else. I guess that's a "down side" with motorbikes and Harley especially...too many choices ;-)

I'll keep ya'll posted on how I like it if you care at all.
