New Rear Dunlop Tire for 2003 FLSTC/I - D401 or D402?
Which size is better for the rear tire on my '03 Heritage Classic?
It came with a stock D401 and I could go with the same,
but am curious if a D402 would be better (it appears to be smaller tho). Thanks for the help.
Oh. The front will have the same stock D401F on for a few more miles yet.
Can't change both out right now.
Metzler lovers are welcome to chime in with a size for me too.
the d402 is stock on a flstc i also have and 03 flstc i personally put the mt90 16 metzellers on mine this set of tires and so far with 3500 miles the rear is going to outlast the 402 by i would say a couple thousand miles and handling is far superior than the 402s were
Mine came from the factory with a 401 too. It has 10,500k on it and am changing it due to age. Do you think it had a 401 on it because it was fuel injected? I can't think of any other reason that some were 401 and some were 402. The front **IS** a 401 also - 401F. Still need to know what to replace it with tho...
I personally have never seen a 03 FLSTC with 401's on it. Nevertheless, the 130/90/16 402's are for heavier bikes, ( such as the entire touring line.) Regardless, the 402 should last longer, though most people will tell you that the traction is slightly less due to a harder compound.
Both Dunlop E-3's and Metzelers have excellent traction and long life. I've run them both with excellent performance. ( But, everybody has their own opinion!)
