I am about to start the 10k service on 08 Night train. I have no problem doing the service as listed in the manual but my question is do any of your really grease the neck bearings at this service or only when you notice an issue with them. And do you think the dealer really does all the items listed during the service. Also I noticed there is no mention of adjusting the tension on the primary chain, does it have a built in idler to keep it tight all the time. I had to manually adjust it on my sporty.
Why skip greasing the steering head bearing? Only takes half a minute. A couple of pumps with the grease gun and that's it. There is a zerk fitted on the right side of the steering head.
You have an automatic primary chain adjuster, so all you need to do is replace the oil in the primary.
As for the dealer really doing it all ... mine does (know because I was there when they did), don't know about yours.
man, I just am not sure I got the tension right on my sporty's primary. how the hell do you mesure deflection in that little window? it would have helped a lot if they had markings in there. holding a tape measure up to that little window seems a pain in the *** and not accurate anyway, given how awkward it is. anyone have any tips?
Seems as if I had a brain fart and overlooked the grease fitting and was thinking I had to take it apart and hand pack the bearings. Always good to get another set of experienced eyes looking at things before starting a project would have sucked to take the front end apart for nothing. Thanks for the heads up..

That is pretty much how I adjusted my sporty, had my wife hold a tape and I just looked in thru the window. Can't be certain it was 100% correct but never had any problems with it. I don't know but someone probably makes a special measuring device for it. Good luck getting in set..
If you have to pump half a cartridge or more of grease in the steering head before it squeezes out of the bearing top and bottom, you know the dealer doesn't do all he is supposed to do.
Factory only packs the bearings with grease, so first service you have to fill the whole steering head.
