So you need a wider spool...

Does the backrest "lock" into this spool, or just rest on it and lock further back?

It is a different backrest, but same mounting as this:

Pay no attention to the "dyna" title....

Page 2 diagram....

You need number 3(spool) and the number 2 bolt but probably longer. You can get the bolt at any hardware store...

I wish this forum had a "Thanks" button on posts

Just to be clear, the same spool will be on all 4 points, and ill get 4 long bolts, and a washers (id like to add the washers).

I wanted to clarify, is this method intended on changing out just the one post with the broken pin, or all 4?

either is fine, id prefer a complete conversion so its all consistent

I would only change out the one....

If you keep an allen in your bag, you can use the push pins to keep it detachable and spin the one allen head off quicker.

By changing out all the bolts it's really no longer detachable..

If you want to change all four.. you will need 2- number 1 spools and 2 number 3 spools.

This is just a simple solution to get you through the issue your having.

if you want a "permanent" fix and want to stay detachable, I would look into the barebacks detachable system, but it will be a little more that a $7 spool and a $3 bolt.

Understood. Its actually a solution i wouldn't mind doing for all 4. I only pull bags when im cleaning, and spinning 4 bolts is no biggie ... in exchange for piece of mind every time i snag a nasty bump

Really appreciate your help here!!

One more piece to add here...

If you don't care about the detachable bag aspect, one way is to go back to the HD hardware kit. It comes with all the spools and bolts you need for your bags.

Here is the spec sheet from HD.

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...re_227-229.pdf

According to that, for your bike you need this kit

I don't think the picture associated with the link is actual..They seem to use the same picture for every kit number. I'm betting it contains the studs you found a part number for. The picture in the link would be for a softail standard or other "non" bagged softail.
