So I am new and I am probably asking a question that has been covered, and trust me I did search for a while trying to find the intel I'm asking for but to no avail. I have an 03 night train and I want to put a set of drag bars with 8" straight up risers on it. I really just need to know how long the factory cables are as i figure +6 will work since factory risers are about 3-4 inches. now before you tell me to bust out my measuring tape, i bought this bike used and it has a set of 18" swept apes on it so that wont save me. Thanks for any info you can get to me. Also does anyone know of anyplace that does a cable brake line package? I want to keep the black or go to the stealth by barnett, all the packages I see are for braided stainless, and my bike is beyond blacked out and I want to keep it that way. Thanks again.
Not sure if there is a difference between the '03 and '05 bars, but my '05 train came stock with 6" risers. So, going to 8" risers with drags, +6 over stock might be overkill. Stock length may even work as there is some slack in the lines. You may want to check with your dealer or a local indy, they may be able to steer you in the right direction.
Sorry, can't really help on package deals, still running the stockers for now.....
See that is actually very helpful because i thought I would need to add a lot of length. So maybe +2 would be better. The problem is every time I look at +2 cables or lines on a website or ebay or anywhere, they always list a different length. For instance; I have seen 31" listed as standard or stock length for throttle and idle cables, but I have seen 28" listed aswell. Just wish I knew factory length so I could be sure. I can't even find specs on the bike that list the factory length
PM is private message I'm assuming. I'm not even sure I know how to do that. In regards to the intel in that thread, I would only ask now; what is factory bar width. Again, having the huge apes on the bike I bought doesnt give me much to work with. I did 8" up drags on my 99 dyna low rider and all I have to change was the brake line, so maybe I'm in the same boat here if I track down some factory cables?
just want too loose those apes and swap in the drags, then gotta work on a new tank. I want to keep that one but have one all black with no badge or striping on it.
The reason you're seeing different lengths listed as "stock" is because the stock length is relative to the model. The stock lengths for your bike are....
Clutch = 57 11/16 inches (2 13/16 inch cable travel)
Throttle = 26 1/2 inches (5 inch cable travel)
Idle = 26 1/2 inches (4 3/4 inch cable travel)
Brake line = 43 inches
