I have a 2010 Fatboy Lo as my first Harley and was looking to change out the pipes to true duals to allow room for large detachable bags, but cannot find them in a black ceramic finish from a major manufacturer; e.g., V&H, Cobra, Rush.
For now, I may just swap out the stock silver slip-on mufflers (that should have been black to begin with) with the black Screamin' Eagle Street Performance Slip-on Shotgun Mufflers (part number 80621-10) $449.95. Besides being the right color, I was hoping that they would provide a little more volume to the exhaust sound. I'm not looking to wake the neighborhood, but a little more deep rumble that the stock set seems to lack.
Does anyone have any experience with these? Do they add anything except an expensive black look?
Yea I put them on my '10 Lo and like them. They are just a very little louder, maybe 2 db, not much. The sound is a little deeper and I am happy with them. If you are doing the install yourself be sure you have a GOOD 3/8 rachet wrench, not socket and rachet, a rachet wrench. There are 6 bolts, 4 in the bottom muffler and 2 in the top that are a PITA to get back in, without taking off pegs and bracket and I'm not sure what else. I got mine with out taking anything else off, just aggrefeting. Good luck.
Thanks Old Coddger; that's exactly the kind of feedback and advice I was hoping for. They look good on your bike as they complete the black theme. Your advice about the ratchet wrench will probably also save me a whole lotta time, busted knuckles and nasty language.
Sgt Jim,
I originally had the idea of a dual exhaust in black, which would be unique for a Fatboy and I think would look kind of cool. Vance & Hines has the softail duals with either fishtail or slashcut tips, and even offer the quiet baffles, but only in chrome. I wrote to V&H and they replied that they currently have no plans for offering them in a black finish. I know that Bub has a set of black duals, but I was looking at V&H and Rush because the Harley dealer supports them and could resolve any tuning or warranty issues. As mentioned, my "plan B" was to go with the Harley black SE slip-ons. Your thoughts?
Look no further, great looking & sounding true duals! I have the 4" Racing TD's on my Heritage with the 90-93db baffles. I believe they are available with quiet baffles at no charge. About 85db!
