Just bought her and she runs great ....... Today I took a 2 hr ride and stopped to get a drink ..... got back on her and it wouldn't start made a nasty noise and kinda backfired ...I felt the motor and it was super hot ...I let it cool down and it was fine ..... What can I do to keep it cool ?
I feel your pain, as I had hot start problems after building my engine. A good custom dyno tune solved the problem.
Post the hot start problem up in the Engine/Fuel/Exhaust forums, you should be able to get more suggestions there. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/engin...ke-exhaust-57/
Try to include as much information about the build as you can; Carburetor or EFI, static compression, cold cranking pressure, etc.
There are some real sharp guys that hang out there who can probably give you a few suggestions (Scott with Hillside or djl to name a couple).
I just went out and checked the plugs...Fine
Checked all connections....Fine
Checked oil in a verticle bike position COLD and nothing on the dipstick I even stuck my finger as far down as I could and nothing....got a flashlight and it looks really low. I don't see and leaks anywhere I went over the entire bike and it don't smoke either.
It sounds like the oil is low although you are supposed to check it on the sidestand, not vertical. Warm it up and check the level. If it is low add some but check it warm. I have a 95" stage 2 motor with stock heads and some 203 cams and have enver exoperienced this issue.
The nasty noise could be the clutch as depending on your pwoer and speciifc mods (psot tehm if you know them) the excess pwoer of teh motor can sometimes necessitate the need of a stronger clutch spring.
We need more info on your specific mods to really help.
