I have purchased a power commander for my 2003 softail. I will be installing a set of Vance and Hines big shot staggered pipes. My question is would it be worth getting it on a dyno machine or is the download from power commander good enough? Thanks in advance for the advice. Henry
Your new PC has a lot of nice features you should slowly start learning. These features will help make your bike run better. I suggest you load the map for it that matches the configuration you have. Do some test riding and see what you think. Then you can have them dyno it if you want to spend the money. You will have both maps, the one you created and the dyno map to compare. You may also want to search the internet for someone that had there same model bike with the same upgrades dyno'ed. They might give you the map thay had made and you won't have to pay for your own.
My 5 Cents....

I have an 05 FXSTI and the PCIII has done great with the download. The download i am using is from 03 and it works great. Dyno tuning will be useful to pick up lots of HP with a big bore and Cam kit. The install was easy and I have not had any problems.
Just about to ride again after having an emergency appendectomy(sp). Been almost 6 weeks.
Here's another option http://www.mmgmanagement.com/ You'll find that you can purchase a map that was dynoed on a bike with your exact mods. Matt has taken the time to dyno just about every combination available and offers them on his site. He is the instructor for the dealers on dyno's and knows his business. His maps will get your PC closer than the canned maps offered on their site without the wear and tear on the bike from a dyno operation, not to mention the qualifications of the dealers tech doing the run. Is there an option with the PC (another item to purchase with the PC) to upload how your engine ran from the PC to a laptop? Something that looks like a dyno run that the PC keeps after downloading a map to it then taking the bike for a run.
Yes there is, can't remember for the life of me what the name was, maybe scan tech or twin scan or something of that order. If I come up with it , i'll repost.
I like the looks of it but one thing about it that it doesnât have is a way to check your exhaust for your mix ratio. It looks like it tells you what it's trying to run your mix at but doesnât look like it says that's what youâre running at. I need to read the manual or call them to verify. I really donât have a problem taking the bike to a dyno shop to dial it in when I have all the goods on it but I do like to fine tune things myself as well (put that personal touch on it).
hey all you guys who installed the pc in a softail, where did you install the module? i have an 04 FB and can't find any room for it under the seat....if you have pics that would be very helpful. thanks
