I'm considering a windshield for my 07 Deuce. I get a lot of wind, bugs, rocks, etc. at higher speed, hwy riding and I'm wondering if a windshield would alleviate some or all of this? Does it make the bike more unstable in the high wind? I not concerned with this on shorter, around town, through the country rides but like the idea of having a detachable option for longer hwy rides. How effective is the HD windshield? Is it easily detachable and is the hardware left over when the windshield is off concealed enough or an eye sore?
Bitchin' Deuce you have there BTW. I like the flush gas cap mod you did (read about it over at VTF). If I was handy with a heat gun and not worried about screwing the whole thing up, I'd do the same.
That sounds good about the new windshield mounting. Now if I can just figure out if it will help much relative to cost and not blow the bike all over the place in high winds.
I find that even the small (14") windscreen that I have on my bike makes a world of difference... does not cause issues with wind and definitely helps with road debris - at 80MPH you can ride instead of merely hold on. It is not a quick detach but does come off very easliy with no hardware left behind in the event you want to cruise without it - however it blends pretty nicely and IMHO does not detract from the bike even when it is left on.
The windshield is great for highway, like voodoo says, your not holding on, just enough to take the main wind pressure off of you.
i bought one of the new windshields with clamps for my wifes sportster. Its great. Didnt know they started making this style
for the deuce. Mine is detachable, but leaves behind some hardware when off. Plus the clamps seem alot more secure.
