Hi Chubba, I covered my efforts in another thread here. My wheel came with 3/4" bearings, so I bought a Harley bearing kit for 1" wheels, which came with the spacer. I had to bore the centre of the wheel to provide clearance, as the spacer is larger in diameter than the 3/4" spacer.

Harley wheels of that generation will all take 3/4", 1" or 25mm bearings, which are all the same OD and the bearing kits (intended for installing in new custom wheels) come with all the necessary parts to convert. In the case of a softail wheel, like our Deuce rear, the hub may need to be machined, as I did.

I worked on the principle that I needed bearings and a spacer, so was prepared to buy factory first time. That way, if the bearings are a stock size and not a Harley special, I have in my hand the identity of any replacements I may need in future.

Hope that helps.

My brother is looking to swap out the solid wheel with a wire wheel and we found an 18" 3/4 axle wheel local, do you need specific hub sizes for the deuce or will any 3/4 work?

In my case above I replaced a stock 1" bearing touring wheel for my Deuce, by swapping the Deuce 3/4" bearings for 1" touring ones. The critical hub dimensions seem to be identical and I used the same axle and spacers for both wheels. So I'm going to guess your brother should be fine.
