Default Softail Shock adjustment

I was trying to adjust the shocks on my heritage but one of them is very stubborn and won't budge. I loosened the jam nuts and was able to turn one of the shocks but the other one bends the spanner wrench when trying to adjust? Any tips on freeing up the stubborn shock?

If you have a strap wrench it is much easier.
I put it around the can to hold it when loosening the jam nuts,
then use it to turn the can to adjust.

Have tried it with the weight on and off the suspension. I also tried using the strap wrench, I can spin the stubborn shock with great effort using the strap wrench but the center plate where the wrench fits does not spin.

Use a pipe on your spanner.

Turning just the shock doesnt do anything, its just a cover for the spring inside. The plate sits in a small recess that holds everything togeather. Get a good solvent and spray it, and let it sit for a while. You could try just a tad of heat to expand the metals to break them free too.

Maybe I'm lucky but I have adjusted my shocks with a strap whrench several times and it worked.
Maybe having the bike elevated helps.

I second this plan!

I third it.

I'll add if some solvent / WD-40 doesn't work, pull the shock altogether and either repair off the bike where you can get your grip around the thing, or look into some progressives or some kind of replacement. I'll bet spraying it and letting the penetration fluid work on it for a while, should do the trick. It's probably got some crud up in there just freezing it up.
