Hey all, Looking for a bit of advise. I need to get a new rear tire. I am on my second stock 200/55/r17 Dunlop on my 09 softail custom. I got 3600 miles out of my first one and I might get 4k out of this one. I know that riding hard like I do wears them out faster but I was hoping for 6k miles at least. I like Metzler. I had them on my first bike and they were good. I have been looking at Bridgestone Exedra G850 Rear Tire, Pirelli Night Dragon Rear Tire, Avon AV72 Cobra Rear Tire, and the Metzeler ME 880 Marathon Touring Rear Tire. Any thoughts or helpful comments, or even not helpful are welcome. Just trying to find the best performing and safest tire.
I have Avon Cobras on mine they stick better than the Dunlop and seem to wear better, I got 10k from the dunlop and now have almost 9k on the avon and still has a lot of tread left.
I was going to try to do both at once. i bought mine at the dealership last time and it was really expensive. might order online and maybe they will ship to dealer. should save a few bucks.
I think i spent 500 last time for both front and rear and install from dealer with stock dunlops.
I have been running the Metzler ME800s on my bike since I bought it, lots of hard city driving and I get 9000 miles out of the rear and 18000 from the front
I just ordered a pair of Metzler ME880s from this website $300 http://www.americanmototire.com
I have about 8k on my rear, and it looks like it'll go about 10-12k. Huge difference in handling. A new Metz will run circles around a new Dunflop every day of it's life, and I'm getting about the same mileage out of 'em.
