Default New harley Help

Just got the first harley! Been riding jap bikes for years, but got a few questions? Bike is a 2001 softail duece injected. First Question I have noticed not to many accesories for this model? wondering why? My main question is the bike has a popping at deceleration which tells me a lean motor. The bike has screaming eagle pipes don't know which model cause I can not find these pipes anywhere online.(baffles removed), also a k&n filter. I can take the bike to a dealer who will remap the ecm for 250 dollars. but thinking buying a tuner would be a better investment cause later down the road a set of cams would be nice but would have to take to the dealer again for another download for another 250! I have no idea what tuner would be needed or how to tune it any ideas?

Fuel Moto!
Checkem out, get a Power commander!
From there you can do your own maps.
and as for the pipes, no baffles prob sound sweet, but ur loosing a ton of back pressure (power/torque). Look at Big city thunder baffles if you want the loud sound and increased power.
IMO, FM PC, then baffles and you will see a drastic change for cheap!

sounds like a Stg I and probably has the hi flow breather since it has a K&N fliter. Hd used to sell Screamin Eagle Stg II slip on pipes. They will be stamped somewhere around the bottom and say they are not for road use if they are Stg II pipes. Not that tuner is a bad investment, but I wouldn't get too bogged down over some decel popping. 99.9% pop some on decel. Of course there will be someone who swears their bike is perfectly tuned and does not pop at all and good for them. You can get baffles for it like LarryLives said and that would be money well spent. If you have to do this in stages, baffles are cheaper than a tuner and you should see a performance improvement. I am not sure getting a tuner without baffles would get the most out of your tuner. It's a Duece, not many around and an awesome bike. Enjoy it.

Running baffleless will make a lot of noice, but U'll usually lose Tq in the lower half of the RPM's

Pipes/A/C and some kind of a F/M system is called STG1,

As for the Fits everything except the Duece. its because its the ba$tard bike..different tank and rear end supports.

If it was me starting out again, I'd start with the baffles and just learn about my bike. Once you get a feel for it and the mods you wanna do, get your cams and tuner at that time. You can't go wrong with any of the tuners, it's just more cost effective to select a package that you know will work.
Congrats on the Duece, to me it's the best looking bike except for the Fatboy, lol

Everyone worries about Decel Pop. Maybe its lean, maybe its not. I pop occasionally on heavy decel with my stage I, however the plugs look just fine. Hell.....I would like to blow flames on decel if I could!!!

Your Deuce is sort of Harley's 'Odd Duck' of the Softail line.
It's a Softail, yes, but it has some non-standard parts (tank, seat, instrument panel, fenders, etc.) that make getting aftermarket or even Harley parts that fit it something of an adventure in find print reading.
ALWAYS read the find print, cause lots of really nice parts will often say "except Deuce" somplace in the description.
Its a shame, but its unfortunately the way things are.
The up side is that the bike, excepting running gear is a unique and really nice looking ride that really doesn't need much (looks wise) if anything more than it came with.
One thing that no one mentioned is that seeing as your bike was made in 01 it MAY have the older FI system and not the Delphi FI system that all later bikes come with.
So the first thing you should do is make sure which system is in the bike, that way you wonlt be wasting money on systems that will not work properly with it.
