My sled lost the primary bearing last friday. About 4 bills to fix. bummer. I should be getting it back from HD on Wednesday. The tech pulled it apart and the bearing fell out and apart. I lucked out. If it would have came apart it could of taken out the tranny. Big $$$$
How many miles on your 07? Were there any telltale signs like a strange noise or something? I think everyone would like to have this info just in case.

Drew, I have just under 23k miles on the bike. The noise sounded like the primary chain was rubbing on the primary cover. The tech said its not very common for this bearing to fail so soon.

I know that the 06 Dyna's were cursed with IPB failure issues. But the newer ones seem to be better. Maybe if Harley would pony up for some better bearings this might now be an issue at all.
Was it the trap door bearing or the clutch hub / basket bearing?

I had to replace the clutch basket bearing in a 96 Sportster, and the original bearing was a Japanese bearing. I got a good quality bearing at Napa for half of what the dealer wanted for a replacement bearing.

my 08 deluxe had a bad primary bearing. The way I noticed it was that it made a sort of growling noise when the bike was in neutral and clutch was disengaged. Pull the clutch in and the noise went away. Had no idea what it was. Twisted Cycles in manchester, nh did though and fixed it up. Wasn't close to $400 though. Parts and labor was $170. But it sounds like the problem was worse for t-stone. They also said that it was the first one they've ever replaced. They said it was due to an improperly hardened bearing that started to come unseated and the noise was the unseated bearing rubbing against the inside steel ring.
