I'm buying a new set of torx bits and wanted to make sure I get all the sizes I need. I know I will need a #27 for the derby cover any other odd sizes? How about brand, any problems with the torx bits from Sears?? How about other manufactures? I know Snap-on but are they really needed??
You can get a nice set at the HD dealer that's got everything you'll need. They've got a small bag with the small sizes or a little bigger one has all of them. Probably not the cheapest, but it stores easily for trips and they give a lifetime warranty on them.
thats the key to torx bits.. a lifetime warranty and ease of exchanging them. due to their design they are prone to twisting and chipping. i wouldn't pay snap -on prices for a set of bits as much as you would use them.. hell i won't pay their prices and i use torx bits just about every day.. lol..
a HD set or Sears set should be just fine for ya.. even Lowes has a decent Kobalt set for $25 with lifetime warranty..
15 and 20 are the next two down, then theres even a 10 and 8.. the last two aren't used much other then in assembly of electronics..
those torx sockets in the home depot kit are called tamper proof sockets and shouldn't be used in a regular torx bolt.. they need the center pin in the bolt to support the outer wall from flexing and snapping..
Depending on how much you work on your own bike I might recommend some long torx bit sockets. Off the top of my head the passenger peg mounts take a long T50.
Had a set from Harbor. Would not hold up. Got a Stanley set from Walmart. Have used an impact on the one for the foot peg mount to the frame. Fine for home mechanic. They say lifetime just like sears but not sure who with. $10.00 Standard 10 pc set will handle anything on Harley.
It's hard to beat Sears Craftsman hand tools, they might not be the absolute best or cheapest around. But they are guaranteed forever and if you ever need to replace a broken tool the stores are never too far away.

Stanley does have a lifetime guarantee on their hand tools. The down side is that you have to send the tool to them and they will send a replacement to you. A friend was going to toss out an older 3/8 ratchet handle and instead of him tossing it out I took it and called them. They gave me an address to send it in to and a couple of weeks later I got a nice new one back in the mail. So now I have another good ratchet handle for the price of couple of stamps.
