Default CVO softail question

I think I've owned at least one model in each of the HD family of bikes, except a softail. My last two have been baggers and while they are very nice to ride, I am very much drawn to the looks of the softail. In this case, I'm looking at the CVO softail convertible. While I know there's a separate forum for CVO's, there's not as much activity there and I'm interested in hearing from softail owners about the handling characteristics. Every article I've read on the CVO talks about how easily the floorboards touchdown and while I'm not going canyon carving, I would like to know if this is a really big issue.

I live among some great roads in southern cal so I don't want to be scraping on every turn. If this is a big issue, can it be improved with better suspension? Again not looking to ride like I would my BMW K1300S but the articles make it sound like it doesn't turn at all. The only other CVO's are baggers and that means a lot of extra weight. That's okay for the highway but I do one 4 day ride a year through the Sierra's and the rest of the time is 100-150 rides through the canyons, mulholland highway and the back roads up to Ojai.

I'd appreciate your thoughts. I really like the looks of the softail but don't want to find out after riding for a few hundred miles that it only goes well in a straight line. I know I'm exagerating so please don't take me literally. I have ridden the bike but there's a big difference when you actually live with one for a while.

thanks

I have an 09 Crossbones, it's not a CVO, but I can tell you I scrape my boards a couple times a day. It's no big deal, I rather enjoy it. I would suggest you find another softail with the same ride height and rent it for the day, and see if scraping annoys you. Ride safe.

+1 your going to scrape at some point weather you mean to or not, but ur not going to rub every time u take a slight turn, u have quite a ways to go over before u touch at least on my bike, dont know the ride height differnce between the 2 though!

It's all a matter of how aggressive you want to ride.

My '03 Heritage, with good tires and upgraded suspension, will let me feel when the floor boards are kissing the asphalt. It will also let me go even further and let me feel the boards folding up. I love it.

Get a Softail CVO, add Progressive springs and heavy fork oil, install Progressive 422s or Shotgun shocks, get a good seat. Have fun.

No it will never handle like your Beemer, it is what it is

Thanks for your comments. Sounds like what I'm looking for. I just got a little spooked by some of what I read. I looked on the HD site and the ground clearance and lean angles are all that different from any other softail which is why I reached out to you guys.
