here's the deal...i'm thinking about picking up another bike...saw this one on ebay but it comes with a Revtech 110" w/Mikuni 45mm carb and a 6 speed Revtech trans. Anyone have any experience or knowledge with the Revtech? I was just looking to get some insight. Obviously my main concern would be the reliability. check out the link below. thanks.
i also heard parts are heard to come by...this american classic motors place also offers revtech motors with ultima transmissions...but still leaning towards scratching this idea
Yeah, RevTech typically has an attractive price, but I'll never use their products again. If I want a big inch motor and hard core trans, I'll go with S&S Engine and Baker for the Trans.
My Riding Season ended early last summer due to a RevTech 6-Speed trans locking up on me while cruising a two lane hwy at 75 to 80 mph. Didn't give much warning either, just felt a few quick jolting tugs on the drive train, then rear wheel locks into a full on skid. I was able to keep it upright and as soon as I came to a full abrupt stop, I put the kick stand down and got the hell off the bike to flag down approaching traffic. The rear end was locked, so there was no way to move it off the road without cutting the secondary belt. Anyway, the cops showed up to direct traffic around my bike and they let me call a friend with tools so we could remove the belt from the pulley then onto a trailer.
RevTech did give me a new replacement trans but I knew I'd never be comfortable with the haunting thoughts of this happening again. So I just put the stock HD tranny back in knowing that an HD Trans has never failed me.
