Rode the Deluxe today for the first time and loved everything but the cramped seat. I'm 6'0 tall and feel like Im running out of room. Keep pushing all the way back untill I sit on the high part of the seat, almost on the passenger hold bar, I hear they make a tallboy seat for the bike and am wondering if this seat is worth putting on, or should I go with a different model.
If I choose to go with a fat boy instead, how pissed of is the dealer going to be at me when they just chromed the deluxe out almost completely, I just want a comfortable ride-plus I would be geting the se fatboy from him(same dealer). What am I going to do now??????[&o]
P.S.--I never rode a bike before the other day during riders edge class and I know I should have test ridden a few bikes before commiting on anything, my mistake I dont want to make another one.
The tallboy seat will put you up and back a bit which I've heard helps, but it totally changes the look of the bike. I personally think the tallboy seat is "butt ugly", but then that's just my opinion. You do have other options, though. Corbin makes a seat called a "Classic Solo" (see my gallery or Whiplush's gallery for pics) that still keeps the old-fashioned look, but moves you down and back a bit. I've found this to help alot, although the seat is very firm and takes 1500-2000 miles to break in. If you don't mind changing the look of your bike, you can opt for any of the late-model seats for softails, but you must remove the seat, pillion and luggage rack.
As for swapping your Deluxe for a Fatboy, once your bike has been titled in your name, it must be sold as used. Your dealer may be different from the one's I've dealt with, but they usually take off about $1000 from what you paid, since they have to re-sell it as used by law. If you really loved the Deluxe in the first place, which is why you paid the big bucks for it, I'd recommend trying other seating options.
Good luck with your decision and enjoy the new bike! I sure love mine and will only trade when I decide to go for a touring bike, ala Ultra Classic...
I can understand your problem. I am only 5' 6" and find myself wanting a little more room. I love the look of the seat and it is comfortable so I will try to stick with it. A riding buddy of mine has a fatboy and went with a corbin seat and really likes it. I hope you find sutible replacement and when you do let us know.
Change the risers out for some shortys or chop the factory risers like I did. I'm 6'0 and had the same problem. I changed out the seat and it made a difference but chopping the risers makes a difference as well.
i totally agree with the comfort thing. im 5'7" and the deluxe is like sitting on your couch and riding in a cadillac at the same time. the weight disappears and you can enjoy the ride.
