Default tyre advice

hi guys,

I have a HD Dunlop on the rear of my 06 Fatboy.
I need to replace the front(covered 16.5k).
I feel that the std rubber is a bit on the hard side even though it seems to last a long time.

Also, more recently, a friend of mine had a puncture on his XR1200 and the many of the local tyre shops daid that the HD Dunlops dont take plugging if a puncture repair is required, rendering the tyre a right-off.
Apparently its something to do with the compounds used.

Has anyone run a Avon Venom up front and a Std HD Dunlop at the rear?
If so - are they a good mix?

Thanks

Ironman..Don't know much about the Avons, but I ran a Dunlop up front and a Metz out back for a year with no ill effects..I'm not racing, or doing any serious canyon carving, but personally I couldn't feel any difference in cornering or straightline riding. I now have the metzelers on both ends and am very happy with them.

same here on a Metzler in the rear and a Dunlop on the front. Didn't notice any ill effects, but don't really run that hard either. Lots of folks are resistant to tire plugs on anything. I have always had laced wheels so plugs have never been an option, but I wouldn't have a problem with one if it was.

Your British. Get Avon's. Huge difference in handling characteristics. Keep it aired properly and it will last a long time too. Well worth the extra money.

I agree. Avons feel much more secure and will mix with the Dunlop if you can't see your way to paying for a new pair.
