I actually don't thing they are the same counter balance in the two motors, so both should be balanced out to feel the same. My Heritage is up to a 103 and has cams, intake and exhaust, and vibs a little more then it used to, but still runs smooth. I will say though that if you are comparing it to say a honda or yamaha or something, then no, it's not as smooth. The harley motor by nature runs a little rougher, and has a lot more noise from the motor (valves and whatever...) the any jap bike would. If you want a perfectly good running smooth bike, buy a honda, if you want a real bike buy a harley. A 88-103, all run about the same for smoothness from what I've seen, and I must say that a 95 probably runs a little stronger then a 96. So why do you ask??
My metric 102 inch, ridgid mount motor, as far as I know not balanced, is smoother then my 88B was, and smoother then my 107B is. Not saying the roughness bothers me, but someone mentioned it, so I chimed in. The 107 does shake the chassis a bit more then the 88 for sure, and it is over square, all bore, stock stroke. This is a 107 built out of my 88, so no change to the balancers.
I asked because I have a 2000 88B. It runs pretty smooth. I have possible access to a big bore kit. A buddy of mine bought the barrell/pistons etc for his 02, but never used them. He sold that and has purchased something newer (a 103 I think)
I'm just debating spending MORE $ on this bike that I'm already rather buried in. Or just eat it and get something newer.
I already have the 203 cams (may update later).
I did ride an 06 Deluxe with the 95 kit and it seemed pretty strong.
The on going opinion seems to be the 95" motors RUN !!
Just looking for options/opinions.
Thanks for the replies!!!!
