Use a source of heat on the area around the bolt. Use a heat gun, hair dryer or somthing like that. It should not take a lot. It will help by expanding the area around the bolt slightly & act to loosen the loctite that is applied when installed from factory.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Agree with the heat. I use a small propane tourch on the shift rod end where the peg threads into it. It will not discolor the chrome, only enough to soften the locktite.

I took them right off the bike. Then, I wrapped them in a cloth and put them in a vise on my bench. Then turned the metal part by hand and viola! Easy as pie!!

Fatbernie's method sounds the best to me......not the way I did it, but probably be the easiest way about it.....

My husband did mine on my Sportster and now my Deluxe. The Sporty was easy. On the Deluxe he ran into trouble with one of the pegs. Both times he used a knife to cut off part of the rubber in order to get a good grip with a vice grip. Otherwise the rubber just kept turning around. Ended up breaking off one of them and he had to drill out the bolt. Eventually, it all worked out.

As a matter of fact, he just did that two days ago! Wished this post would have been here then!

Yep, cut off the rubber then used vice grips on the metal and twisted. Worked fine.
