to change out the peg on the heel shifter without tearing the rubber? I am changing the heel shifter to an extended unit but the peg is screwed in very tight. I didn't want to rip the peg by using a large set of pliers.
if original.
remove shifter from bike.
heat bolt hole with torch from behind shifter peg for a little bit...the heat will start to get to black rubber peg..
let it sit for a minute..the heat will start to melt the lock-tite stuff.
get vice grips and lock them down on center of rubber peg..start to turn..relax if the rubber comes off..just remove it and re-attach vice grips to metal that was inside peg and finish the job...you can re-attach the rubber part to the peg with some black RTV gasket maker ..done.
