2010 Heritage Softail 10000 miles on it Samson True Duals ran like a champ , now it's missing and backfiring, Stealership says it's the aftermarket pipes so I put the stock pipes back on it ran fine, but I can't live with stock pipes, Thinking about putting a Power Commander on it to keep the true duals really like them anyone got any good advice?
You do need to tune the bike one way or another if you're going with pipes like those. Slip-ons are one thing, but you've made a pretty drastic change. I went with the power commander, but wasn't really happy with the results, but if you get the auto-tune with it, or have a indy handy that can tune it for you, it should work great. Lots of other options out there though. Just wondering, from how your post reads, did the bike run fine for a while when you first added the pipes, or did you have trouble from day one?
A missing issue is usually not the pipes. A popping issue is. Two totally diff probs.
Popping can be either lean or rich A/F. An Air leak can also cause popping and Back firing.
If U put 10K on Ur bike with the T/Ds and she just now started popping, I am thinking if U do have a miss due to something it may be causing Ur popping.
Have U checked to see if Ur throwing any codes. I'd start there.
Also As far as missing out, U prob have another issues.
Check Ur battery bolts, see if there tight, sounds silly but that was what caused my missing issue that I had and it been reported by lots of others in here also.
Could also be crappy gas. But I'd go ahead and get the PCV, you can adjust a ton of perameters just by plugging in to your laptop/PC. I had to change out my fuel filter on my '09 Heritage with 17k on the clock...not really "due" until 25k. That was causing a lot of popping, hesitation, lack of power etc. Runs like a champ with 18k+.
