Default apes cable problem

first time out with my wild chubby apes, burley cable kit,,anyone else have problems with the clutch cable?,mine is not smooth, you go to let it out in traffic and it seems to chatter instead of being smooth,,no kinks in the cables, greased the handle and bushing, but i did install it out of the box,no oil in the cable?

this is not the first issue I have heard of with this on the Burly clutch. Put some serious oil into the cable to lube it.

I had this same problem when I installed my apes.. then I got a magnum clutch and now its as smooth as silk...Your best bet is to take the measurements from the burly cable and just order a magnum or bennett cable..

I spoke with Burly just two weeks ago. This is a known problem with their clutch cables. They had thought that almost all cables with this problem have been sold already and no more problems out their. Apparently not. The cable is rubbing on the metal piece where you adjust the cable tension. Not good because over time the cable will wear and break. Call Burly, get a new cable from them and you will have to reinstall.

Have to say the Magnum's are the best, when I changed to my bars the only cable I could get without waiting a week was a Harley one and the clutch is a lot stiffer with it then the Magnum. I will change it out over the winter. They are well supposed to be made by the same co. and if they are the specs are not the same at all. Magnum's are the best I've found

talked to burly, told them of my problem, they wanted me to take the cable off, send it to them, they will inspect it and send me a new one,,or buy a new cable, send them the old one and they will refund the money,,the sales guy told me they never had any problems,i mentioned the hd forumn and he changed his story to ,,oh,we did on the early cable runs,,,lol,,cheap cables, nothing but trouble,,going to step up soon with a nicer set,,

I have always used Magnum cables and brake lines on my bikes without problem. I just did my 2011 RKC over the summer. Though the factory clutch was surprisingly easy for a 103 (it has a heavier clutch than the 96) the Magnum cable is as smooth and pulls easier. That's good as I have arthritis in my left hand. The WO 10" Chubby Apes make a world of difference over the stock RK bars too.

Magnum are my choice as well. All nice and smooth and they look purty too!

This is good info, my buddy used a burly kit on his bike too and the clutch is far more stiff than mine. He paid like 210 shipped for the burly kit. I paid 280 shipped for all my Magnums in black pearl. What is funny is I had a Burly kit on order and they let me know it was on back order and I cancelled it. I am sure glad I went with Magnum instead. Not too mention I ordered the Magnum cables and had them 4 days later, even after being told they were made to order and did not have them in stock.
