Default Oil tank problems

I've removed my oil tank because I need to get it painted, it has started to chip and looks terrible. What would you guys do? Rattle can it or take to a painter? I want it gloss black again but I don't want it to start chipping again. Secondly I notice rest in the oil in and out vents, I brake cleaned it and scrubbed most of it out. Anyone else ever get this?

Personally I would take it in and get it powder coated. They will blast it which will take care of the rust and the finish will last longer than any paint.

But either way if u paint or powder coat it make sure u use high temp paint or powder cause that oil tank gets a lil toasty.

Doesn't get hot enough to worry about. Can use regular paint or powder.

I just got mine powdercoated. I had the exact same rust issues you have on my old chrome tank. I didn't see anything else with rust and assume it is from water sitting in the collar area of the tank.
I think I paid like $70 to get mine p/c'd, they charged more for the prep because it was wrinkle finish and hard to get off. It came out nice.

I'm thinking powdercoat is the way to go. As for the rust I cleaned it up nice, and I agree I think its just water sitting in that area, I'm just hoping its not leaking into my oil tank
