Just an update on my latest upgrade on my 2011 Heritage Classic. I did much research on pipes, exhaust, slip ons etc. I decided to go with slip on mufflers due to the value they afford. After much shopping I settled on the Rush tip compatible slip ons and installed them today. I must say that they are a high quality item, with good fit and the sound is the best I have had on any of Harleys, FLH or softail. I didnt realize the softails have a balance tube between header pipes, which helps performance but also give a quality tone to the exhaust, Very happy with product and sound, just what I was shooting for. I went with the 1.75" baffle and very mellow, deep tone at idle and somewhat quiet at cruise speed. I purchased the multi position slant cut billet tips which allow you to change tip position and looks from slash out, slash down, and slash up, kinda neat and tips look high quality.

Congrats, Checkers! I'm a fan of the Rush slip-ons, too. I just installed the Rush 2 into 1 pipes, so now I have 2 sets of slip-ons; one with a slash cut, the other a straight cut. The cross-over you mentioned was used by the British on their early Triumph racers and proved to be a very efficient way to get more torque by scavenging gasses from the other pipe. This is the same reason why a 2 into 1 has more torque potential than 2 into 2 systems. Post pics when you get a chance!!

I learned of the benefits of an exhaust crossover the hard way, I owned a 2008 Honda VTX 1800RT, V twin and removed the 60 lb factory mufflers and cross over and installed a pair of Cobra slip on mufflers, the performance dropped dramatically due to the cross over being gone. Road it a couple trips and ended up putting the factory set up back on and getting the performance back. You are correct in comparing that design with a 2 into 1 or such as V and H and Cobra pipes have designed their crossover or chamber, very important feature when shopping pipes.

I just traded my Street Bob for a 2012 Heritage. I had sworn I wouldn't do anything, buy anything for it - it has everything I could want/need. BUT ... I can no longer stand being without a decent sound.
I had Rush slipons on two previous bikes, my husband has had them as well. That is what I am going with for my Heritage in the spring. I love the sound, and have always gotten a lot of compliments on the sound by others. Someone on the forum had said they (Rush) don't have slip-ons yet for the 2012 Heritage, but I emailed and got a response from Rush, that yes, they do. I can't wait!
I had 2" Downslash Rush slip-ons on my other '07 Deuce and loved the look, sound, quality and the price. I am currently looking for a stock system to install on my replacement Deuce so I can once again add the same exhaust depending on how satisfied I am with what is there. The 'new' bike is coming with V&H Big Shots on it, and I may or may not keep them - time will tell!

Looking forward to a spring upgrade makes the winter months go faster. Rush has discontinued the straight cut slip ons for the Heritage and also the 1.5" baffles due to low demand. I would have put the 1.5's on if they were avail, but happy with the 1.75's they are plenty loud. Something you may already know is on your model when you install slip ons the cat converter is part of the stock mufflers and will be gone when you take the stockers off. It will be cooler and some perf gain. It's all good.

Hey, I just saw this now. Forgive my ignorance, but is this true on other models as well? (That the cat converter is part of the stock muffler and will be gone?) I swear my Street Bob got HOTTER when I installed the Rush slip-ons. I would love it if the Heritage is cooler afterwards!!
Yes the cat is in the muffler. I tried to find this out by calling several stealerships and the Harley customer service line. The answers I got were either 'there is no cat on the bike,' or 'the cat is in the head pipe.' I couldn't believe that the Harley representative told me there was no cat especially after I directed him to the owners manual that specifically noted there was one on all softail models except those in Australia. After removing the muffler and inspecting it the cat is definitely in the muffler.
Man that's great news. I to plan on a pair of Rush slip owns & a stage one breather.I have a question ,how critical is the fuel management upgrade in the sequent of advents. I believe that it will be the last piece in the process of up grading to better sound & performance.I guess I'm thinking Mufflers,Breather & fuel management,or should I reverse it? Money is always a issue these days and I can only get two items at once.I would like to be riding while building up the slush funds for the last piece. Thanks in advance Gary
