Default 2006 flst

I am thinking about buying a 2006 FLST and wanted to get some opinions about it. I am looking at one with 715 miles on it, like brand new but was concerned about the 5 speed. How did/does it do on the highway? Is there much vibration (I am riding a 2008 dyna now). Will standard softail parts from the same year fit?? ANY other info or opinions, things to be aware of etc. on this bike would be greatly appreciated!

2000-2006 parts will fit. I'd shy away a bike that is 6 years old with 700 miles. I'd rahter have a bike with 10K miles at least if it is that old. Softails are counterbalanced and much smoother than Dyna's which are not counterbalanced.

I'd jump all over that bike. I should have bought that instead of my 06 standard. I'm slowly turning it into that any way put on a heritage front end and just have the rear fender i got put on after I widened it. On the highway it would be nice to have an extra gear once you hit 80-85 but dont need it. Wow 715 mile's great find.

07+ you get the 96", 6 speed and upgraded oil pump and cam chain tensioners. Unless that bike is a GREAT deal and you liked it A LOT, I'd get an 07+. Also, that bike is stock. Lots of used bikes with extra expensive goodies out their.

That is a one year production bike. I love the "flash" paint job, silver engine, and the stripped down Heritage look. Like the Doc already posted, most 00-06 Softail parts will work. Do yourself a favor though, buy it only if it is real - real -real cheap. Kuma has given very solid advantages of the 07 and up and there are a ton of cheap Softails available. On the other hand, you can only buy that model as an 06.

To me it would be about the price, not the 96 or the 103 or the 6 speed. I just bought a 2003 fatboy anniversary with 11000 miles and about $6500 of options Bought from a friend for $8500. I just came off a 2002 big dog with a 107 CI and a 6 speed. thought I would be disappointed with a 88 and 5. No way love it. Maybe down the road a 98 kit and cam, but right now for how I ride, not required. For me to get a new deluxe 103, ($18000) plus tax and dealr prep, I am glad I got my 03 for 1/2 that price.

+1 IMHO, one of the best looking Harleys made. Love the graphics on the tank. I believe this model was made only one year. I almost bought one, same color and everything. I've got an '06 - yeah the 96" would be nice, same for the 6 speed, hell, I don't even have fuel injection, but I get by just fine. I don't think a bike with lots of mods is any better than a stock bike unless the mods are the exact ones you'd make. Besides, half the fun is making it your own.

I wouldn't worry about the 5 speed or the low miles. It comes down to do you like the bike (style wise) and is the price right? Good luck with your decision (I'd go for it).

It's not gonna cruise as easily at speed as your Dyna with 96" & 6 speed. Balanced 5 speed Softails tend to really buzz out above 70..Trust me; I have one. The only thing about that particular model--to get it to look right, you're gonna hafta add a light bar (FL front ends look wrong without it, IMHO-why I don't like the Switchback) and you're gonna DEFINITELY hafta do something about the rear turn signal setup--they stick WAAAAAY out, like Andy Griffith's ears & need to be re-located to look good. This is all JMO.
