Default Seat Question

Ok everyone. I am a cheap bastard so I bought a used seat for my 92 Springer. It is a softail seat, and the guy said he wasnt sure what years it fit, but for $75 bones I took a shot. Anyways, I got it in today and just put it on the bike. The front tab was a pain in the *** to get hooked under the bar, but I finally got it. The rear hole lined up ok and I was able to get the bolt in it. However, there is a gap between the front of the seat and the tank that I dont remember seeing with the corbin seat that came on it. Also, there seems to be a small gap under the entire seat. My question is, is this normal? The first pic is the seat so you can see the style. It says Softail on the side of the seat. Second pic is the gap between tank and seat.

Thanks
Mike

just a guess, but possibly the new seat is for later models.

it looks like a mustang seat? is there a part number on the pan?

if there is, you should be able to determine what years & models the seat was made for thru their website.

I am gonna say that the seat is being compressed and that is why it israised up along the whole seat. It needs to be closer to the tank, if your as cheap as you say you are (and as cheap as I am) I would pull out the dremel and figure out how to get the front tab moved back so you can slide the seat forward to close up that gap.

It looks like the seat off my 94 softail. But no gap at the tank.

Well I took it off and there are no numbers or anything at all on it other than the word softail on the side. Dont know that I can modify it either as it looks like the rivets that hold the bracket on arent removable.

If you put a longer fender tab on, would the seat move forward? You could fabricate something if it does.
