You should be picking up cooler air now... so the performance just may be enhanced. I did this same mod about a month ago and to me, it feels about the same.
So does the filter get dirtier faster because it is exposed?

i like the look, can see more of the engine, may have to try this myself. mine is a one piece cover with no insert may have to make a trip to the harley shop.

i had to do this after reading everyone's replies. part no. 29430-06 chrome "flames" air cleaner trim. while i was at it i went ahead and painted the mounting bracket with 1200 degree hi-temp flat black paint.

Looks like a lot of the stock 'football covers' will end up sitting on a shelve.
