Looking to get some new rims for a 2000 nighttrain. Guy said he thinks they are off a wide glide, but he is not sure. The rims are the same size that are on my bike now, but are the axles the same diameter on the dynas as on the soft tails?
depends on what year but i think you can put 3/4 bearings in a wheel with 1" bearings so thats not a problem. I may be wrong someone else will chime in.
When I had my Street Bob I changed over to Wide Glide trees. The wheel that I found came off of an early 2000's model Softail. My Dyna used a 25mm axle the Softail wheel was set up for a 3/4" axle. I bored the hub to accept the 25mm crush sleeve and then was able to use the wheel on my 2009 Street Bob. The only issue I had was that since the wheel was originally set up for 3/4" bearing which are wider than 25mm bearings, the 25mm bearings set farther into the hub so I had to cut custom spacers. As per the dealers I contacted the hubs used on Softails and Wide Glides are one and the same. Plus they are all cast in Taiwan.
2000-03 Dyna's have 3/4" front axles, 2004-2007 Dyna's have 1" front axles (except 2004-05 Wide Glides), 2000-05 Dyna's have 3/4" rear axles, 2006-07 Dyna's have 1" rear axles, 2000-05 Wide Glides have 3/4" front and rear axles, 2006-07 Wide Glides have 1" front and rear axles, 2000-01 FLT has 1" front and 3/4" rear axles, 2002-07 FLT has 1" front and rear axles, 2000-07 Softails have 3/4" front and rear axles (except 2007 front), 2007 Softail had 25mm front axle, all 2008 up bikes have 25mm axles (except 2009-10 FLSTSB had 3/4" front axle).
there are notches on the older rims, Softail ones in particular from 84-99, that control the speedometer but that can be transferred over to the transmission to get your correct speed. So like I think that Drew said that while the bearings are the correct size the hubs may or may not be. The stock rotor and or pulley may need to be swapped too but if I had to go that route then I would invest in a pulley rotor combo to really clean up the rear wheel as I think it would look awesome on your train.
Thanks for all your help. I'm going to go ahead a get them. They are brand new never used, and he only wants $275 for the set. I should have no problem getting my cash back if they dont work out.
