I've asked this question a couple of different ways.
So... TELL ME the best way to get dual disc with a 25mm (1") axle front end on my 07 knightrain. I also want to run the stock tins. And .. maybe a 23" front wheel.
I'd like to start with a "fat boy/ heritage" front end.. to keep the tree thing simple... but .. willing to listen
PICS AND PART #'s APPRECIATED
That's just it ... I'm told the trees are different in width ... the softail trees are narrower .. sooo . that puts the lowers closer together ... that will misaligned the calipers to the "touring" wheel rotors.. which are the only "stock" dual disc wheels out there, not to mention axle spacing.
Does any one know about Revtech hub spacers ????
So ... the first question is ... are the trees different as to width ???
AND .. Is it true you can't use "touring trees" on a softail neck ???
I know about the locks and stops ...
Real touring trees wont work, they are setup with a neg rake so the tubes are behind the neck.
buy a set of lowers off a glide, try to get an axle 2, take your wheel off, measure between the legs, toss the glide legs on, check again. cut spacers, for wheels find a spoked glide wheel, get a 21 off your train and swap the hubs. you'll need to get new spokes unless your train spokes will fit. lace it up and true, then put it on ride it -re true it and enjoy, brakes should be the same as above.
of course I would look for a set of brembos and rotors off a 09 and later. Tech bulletins stated that they are not retrofittable to earlier years, so be careful of your selections on take off legs
