I received another letter from HD saying I need to bring my 07 Fatboy in to the dealer to have a "refined calibration" performed. Whatever that is. The notice states
" The refined calibration will smooth the torque curve application in a manner that minimizes high shock loads to the drive train". For example, high shock loads could result from lugging the engine duirng hard acceleration while operating under 1500 RPM. In addition, this refinement will enhance the drive characteristics for the new Twin Cam and will improve fuel economy."
Also says
"This upgrade is available for stock OE configuration vehicles as well as those that have had a street legal calibration change installed"
Now this is all above my head but I'm wondering if anyone else has received this notice and what the hell does it mean? Since I bought the bike I have added aftermarket pipes, PCIII and A/F. Will the addition of these items void this "refined calibration"?
Sounds like you got the letter about the ECM remap "upgrade". Its a simple thig and only takes a few minutes, but it does work and a lot of the guys have already had it done, myself included. It does smooth out the low to mid range quite nicely. As well as getting you a bit more power in the same area.
The actual bulletin is numbered M-1186 in case your dealer doesn't know about it, quite a few still don't. But the software update was downloaded to all the dealers, they just may not know it.
BTW a few of the guys with pipes and PCIII's haven't had any problems getting it. But if you have a SERT don't bother, its my understanding that the SERT will over write it anyway.
I received my letter from HD yesterday. My dealer told me that since I have already had the SERT installed this doesnt apply to me. Any thoughts on that??

question??
As the upgrade letter states increased fuel milage
and many post are stating that the download dramatically improves the power.
How does less fuel equate to dramatic power improvement??
If you reread the letter, it doesn't actually say you'll see any increased fuel mileage. It's more like they are saying there is the theoretical possibility of certain unnamed models getting better mileage under very specific circumstances. My advice would be, don't count on it.
Here's the exact wording of the text regarding fuel mileage seen in bold print below.
"In addition, this refinement will enhance the drive characteristics for the new Twin Cam engine and, on some models, will improve fuel economy during certain steady state driving conditions as well."
