Default Installing exhaust gaskets

I know somebody out there has an easy way to install exhaust gaskets when replacing pipes...I was starting to use a block of wood around the same size..before I started I thought I would ask the forum.

If using the crush gaskets, a little WD-40 and work them in with your fingers. If using the SE gaskets, just work them in. I switched to the SE's, much easier to put in.

Try using a large socket and tap them in with a rubber hammer.

I switched to the SE gaskets and they went in very nicely.

Thanks for the advice..I think I'll try the WD40 first. At $8 each don't want to experiment much.

If they give me much trouble I'll be switching to the SE too. Asked the parts guy when I bought the crush gaskets what the difference was, he didn't have a clue.

The SE gaskets do not work with most pipes. Check the recommendations on your manufacturer. Then look at http://www.jimsusa.com/tools.php

Be careful with the SE gaskets because they don't always seal. I made the mistake of using them only to find I had leaks at each header until I re-read the instructions on my Rush pipes and saw they specifically said to use the stock tapered gaskets because the other style will not seal....my bad. Just be patient and they'll work into the exhaust port. Place them in and squeeze a little here, a little there....pushing in as you go around. I'd be leary about using any lubricant to help out not knowing how it'll react to the high heat levels when the engine is running. Re-installing pipes is a Royal Pain.
