Fuel problem???
I have a 01 heritage with a problem. short story.. been riding all day (175 mi) stopped for a coke, left and about half mile bike sounds like running out of gas, will idle but will not take gas. Let it set about 20 minutes and runs fine. Took it to the shop and had a fuel filter installed, fixed, wrong. About 250 miles later the same thing again. No codes no other problems. Shop cannot find a problem, runs great when it gets to the shop. Need ideas...
Sounds like a pinhole in the fuel line. Does it only stumble below a half tank. Does it buzz loudly before start up. If you look in the tank when you turn the key on is there a lot of splashing. Welcome to the forum!
soft 02, it did start when it was at half a tank. it does make some noise when the key is first turned on but I thought that was the pump. I may not have said in the first question, but when I pulled the fuel pump out the plastic part thatholds the sock on the bottom of the pump was broken and the sock was gone, so someone had been in there before. If it had a pinhole in the line would it restart and run good for some miles? It always does this after I stop for a short time, never just running down the road. Does it sound like it could be the throttle control? It this point I'm open for all suggestions. Thanks for the reply. I will check for bubbles in the tank.
soft 02, I did check for bubbles in the tank and there are none. I did let the fuel level drop well below half and road until the low light came on with no problem. At this point I have put about 130 miles sence the last problem with no problem, I'm at a lose......
Just wanted to tell you that I once had a similar problem on my 04 fatty and it ended up being the engine temperature sensor. I didn't get any codes either and after doing some extensive research and process of elimination I decided to have the sensor replaced. I had the shop replace the sensor and haven't had a problem since. Good luck.

Vince, thanks for the reply, when you had your problem did it act like it was running out of gas? Mine would idle but would not take the gas. The frist time this happened I did not let it set but contunined to try to get to the next town. I finally did by running about 35 mph in 5th gear. After letting it set at a yamaha dealer for about 30 min. it started right up and ran fine for about 250 miles before it happened again, which was about 2 wks. later. Thanks Bob
